About me

Hi, I’m Claudia, born in 1972, in Angola, Africa. I live in Portugal since I was 3 years old. I lived in Nazare and Algarve until my family settled for Lisbon. I finished high school and went to college, but it wasn’t really something I desired, so I soon gave it up. I’ve been working in the same company since I was 19, and I’m still there. Right now, I live near Lisbon but I spend as many weeks of the year as I can in Germany, a country I absolutely adore.

I enjoy reading, taking naps, watching movies, documentaries and television series. I love photography and I enjoy all types of music, old and new. And of course, I absolutely love to write. It’s the sole purpose of my life.

I’m also an animal’s lover, with a huge crush on cats. Unfortunately, I’m allergic to fur… which actually doesn’t prevent me from owning one cat. Travelling, when I can, in or outside of Portugal is also something I like to do.

Currently, my life is spent between my job, the gym and my laptop. Any little time I have left after all that is spent sleeping or napping.

There’s a whole more I could say about myself, but I’d need a book for that. Or maybe a blog…

Hi Claudia! I’m back at this blogging thing…a new one about writing and love of words, called The Dead Cats Society (which is also the name of my book). Your blog was one of the first links I put on my blog under my ‘Inspiration’ category.

You might notice that my new blog has a similiar style as yours, but it’s all about books and writing.

I am beginning to look for an agent now for my book, a rather daunting task and not nearly as much fun as writing.

Hey, Rahma! How are you? I’m glad to see you here!

Yes, I’ve visited your new blog already, I like it a lot. And yes, I noticed that you’re using the same theme, it’s the only one among the free ones on the WordPress that I really like. For my fiction blog, however, the theme is different, more adequate to tell stories.

Congratulations for finishing up your book. I sooo envy you! I’m really curious about it and I want to read it. I know it’s really hard to get anything published, but keep going and never give up. J.K.Rowlings was supposedly rejected 27 times before even getting an agent.

In Portugal, things are different, writers submit their work directly to the publishers, which simplify things, I gess. The problem is, to get published in this country is like a Mission Impossible episode, so when I get my book done, I’ll publish it in a different way.

Yes, I changed the blog’s name. My portuguese blog is called “Pearl Tree”, but I created the english one first. When I was trying to decide on a name for it, all I could think of was my name Pereira, which means “Pear Tree”. When the time came to create the same blog in portuguese, I realised Árvore de Pêra (Pear Tree in portuguese) didn’t sound so nice, so it became Pearl Tree (Árvore de Pérola). Then, as time went by, I slowly became convinced that I should name my english blog the same way, mostly because I had many comments from portuguese and brazilian people telling me how much they loved the name Árvore de Pérola. Then, finally, I changed it to The Pearl Tree.
